Working as a design professional is a trade packed with interchangeable rules and boundaries. Western design traditionally adheres to the grid and to the minute details of typography. Like stripes & plaids and white after Labor Day, the rules are generally suggestions to a successful design based on the way our brains interpret information. And every once in a while, working within these bounds can drive a designer to take part in a bit of chaos.

“Design Spite” was an exercise in breaking as many design rules as possible while still developing graphically pleasing compositions. I began each piece with a list of design fauxpas and composed them accordingly.
